Start date: from April 2021

We are seeking to appoint an experienced web-application UX designer to join our software development team.

Your role, in a nutshell:
Turn data into something meaningful, digestible, beautiful and valuable.

  • Freedom to work remotely, or (when circumstances permit) in our office in Solihull. (Or a balance to suit you.)
  • Flexible working hours
  • Competitive salary commensurate with your experience
  • Plus profit-share, plus generous benefits

Is this you?

  • You have at least 5 years commercial experience in designing UX for web-based applications.
  • You know how to take a brief (which may sometimes be a bit woolly) and turn it into something that really solves the client’s problems.
  • Your portfolio showcases your ability to design high quality, engaging, intuitive UX for data-centric web-based applications.
  • You thrive in agile, fast-paced software development environments, collaborating with software developers, product owners, clients and project managers.
  • You’re equally at home in html/css, or in design toolkits. (We like Figma; other tools are available.)
  • Your communication and listening skills are top-notch.

If so, we want to hear from you.

Send a two-line note to [email protected] and we’ll take it from there.

About the Senior UX Designer role

Your focus will be on creating interfaces for our suite of competitor-intelligence products.

Our software products are primarily desktop browser-based. There will be opportunities to work on mobile-responsive and/or native mobile app versions too.

Our clients are mostly large global enterprises, particularly in the telecoms and consumer electronics industries. Our users are senior and mid-level managers. They’re based in over 30 countries worldwide.

Although our clients are among the world’s biggest businesses, we’re a relatively small team of about 30 people. We want our software to reflect who we are: highly professional, but also friendly, welcoming and with a sense of humour.

Our “raw material” — data — can be a little on the “dry” side; it’s part of our DNA, both in our personal interactions and also through our “software interactions”, to add a little colour and warmth where we can. This is one of the reasons why our clients like us, and part of your job as a UX designer will be to reflect this in our software.

Your challenge will be to take large, complex data-sets and present them to our users in ways that are clear, relevant, helpful, flexible and easy to understand.

Some of our users need quick, visual, top-level summaries; others want the ability to dive deep and customise their own data-heavy reports.

You will be asked to bring a creative approach to presenting and visualising our data, using graphs, charts, tables, card-based reports and widgets, and other design elements to bring the data to life.

You’ll be driven by a desire to help our clients get the information they need as easily and quickly as possible.

Some of your work will be client-driven. For this, you’ll need to be comfortable working directly with clients. You’ll need to be a good listener in order to understand what the client really needs. You’ll also need to be a confident communicator, as you will undoubtedly find it necessary, from time to time, to show clients that your solution may have advantages over the idea they originally proposed.

Some of your work will be internally-driven. For this, you will need to gain a deep understanding of the markets in which we and our clients work. You will work with senior developers in the team to understand “the art of the possible”, and with product owners to understand the problems that our products are trying to solve.
